trust no one aphorism

Trust no one. Believe in everyone

There's a lot made about "trust" in a relationship and that there must be "trust" to have a good relationship, even that "trust" is the foundation of any relationship.

Trust what? Trust that the person will always be there and meet your expectations? Trust that they will always display their best self? Trust that you'll always be able to rely on them?

Really, no one has that much control over themselves or life. I personally have been disappointed in my own behaviour, even when my intentions have been good... I've not always been my best self. Who hasn't?

But...believe in everyone. This we can do. Despite how you or I or another might be in the moment, we can always believe that, in essence, at our core, we are good, likeable and intelligent.

It's explained nicely in the book I'm currently reading "The Courage To Be Disliked". I'm loving it.
